About the Role
The DevOps Engineer job role is essentially that of an IT generalist and workflow accelerator who acts as the primary "connective tissue" between software developers and IT operations teams.
Instead of treating coding and deployment as separate, isolated steps, a DevOps Engineer focuses on speed, automation, and reliability so an organization can ship high-quality software features daily rather than monthly.
Responsibilities
- • CI/CD Pipeline Management: Design, build, and maintain continuous integration and continuous deployment workflows using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions. • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Provision, manage, and scale cloud and on-premises infrastructure programmatically using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation. • Containerization & Orchestration: Package applications with Docker and manage multi-container clusters using Kubernetes. • Cloud Platform Administration: Deploy and configure services across major cloud providers like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP). • Monitoring & Observability: Set up dashboards, logging, and real-time alerts using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or the ELK stack to track system health and performance. • Security & Compliance (DevSecOps): Integrate automated vulnerability scans, manage secrets, and enforce security policies throughout the software release cycle. • Incident Response & Troubleshooting: Investigate production outages, analyze error logs, and lead post-incident root cause analysis to minimize downtime.
Requirements
- • Operating Systems: Strong command of Linux/Unix administration and shell scripting (Bash, PowerShell). • Programming/Scripting: Proficiency in a language like Python, Go, or Ruby for writing automation scripts. • Version Control: Experience with Git and repository hosting platforms (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket). • Container & Cluster Tools: Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm. • IaC & Configuration Tools: Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet. • Cloud & Certifications: Practical knowledge of AWS, Azure, or GCP—backed by certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA). Education & Experience • Degree: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience). • Experience: Typically 2+ years working in software development, system administration, or a dedicated DevOps/SRE capacity. • Collaboration: Strong communication to act as a neutral liaison between developers, QA testers, and operations teams. • Problem-Solving: Calm analytical thinking under pressure during live production incidents.
